Dinning With Friends

Dinner with my fave' compadres is always swell! We decided on "Chaz an Original Bronx Tale' as the spot to eat freshly baked pizza, freshly made pasta (the spaghetti was awesome) & homemade cupcakes.

The wait to be seated was crazy (at least an hr or more) but we lived through it!! If I decide to dine here again, you bestbelieve it will be for carry out!!

I WILL NOT put anymore stipulations on myself with this whole blogging ordeal. I realized that the basis of my blogging started off as an outlet, to showcase my travels, daily style diary and other random things, that I found beautiful or interesting. In the beginning I had not a clue as to what I was getting myself into....

The pressure started...

I got confused, and lost track as to why I started blogging...

There are some things that I cannot compete with & trying to be "popular" and "likeable" is not one of them

especially when in a sense we all put on character face when posing & smiling for pictures.

I digress, I'm here to do me and that's it

take it or leave it...Hope you love it, but I can't make you do it

Sidenote: I am so inspired by the 1,000,0000 & something blogs that circulate across the vast world of "the intanets"

I had to narrow my "faves" down to about a good 30 or so.

Faves as in I stalk them on a daily basis

I'm not sure If my blog is a "stalkerish" blog, and honestly I could care less.

There...

less bothersome

...and I still have an outlet :D

Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled program, I heart this outfit, I felt like a cute schoolgirl w/ a twist. My boots are not comfortable, so I had to switch from my Combats to platforms. I was a bit chilly too! Thank God for the Early spring weather coming our way!

My closet hues consist of brown,black, gray, blue, green, purple, tan, taupe, yellow, and a small tiny, smidget, shrinkling of an inkling of RED.

I'm not that crazy about red, never was for some reason.

In the past I insisted on scoring a pair of RED vintage trousers...

I was inspired by a spread from Elle Magazine

I found a pair a few months ago, but never had the guts to actually wear them. At church we acknowledge that February is Heart Disease awareness month; and as a representation the ladies are suppose to wear RED. To my dismay, I thought we were suppose to wear Red today (which gave me the perfect opportunity to slide on the red joints)- yeah it's next week, not this week :(

Nothing to fret about, I have a pink # that will suffice as RED next Sunday.

I have to get these pants taken in to fit more securely...

Sidenote: I'm officially moved into the new diggs...I will decorate eventually, in the mean time...work work work!

OH baby it's soooo cold outside and I love it!! I'm terrified to wear spiked heels in the snow/ice, but if a ride is available then I'm all for looking "cayooot". I believe in the moto "curb to cab kickers" or "flats until we get close to our destination"! Whenever I rock these bebe boots, folks squint in the craziest scowl, as if to say "Gosh they look like they hurt". I would be a liar if I said they are super comfy boots. The platform gives me leverage and height, and after two hours of standing (without sitting) it's every toe for himself, lol.If I believed in botox, Mannnnn I'd be right at the doctors office like "Beam me up Scotty", shood I'd get a bo' shot in each foot. Since I'm not on celebrity status I have to endure pain, at least until they come up with another magical gel sole or something???I

Just in case you didn't know, I have a B'earthday coming up on New Years Eve...I will (Lord willing) be the big 29, just a skid mark away from 30 baby!! Yoowsa! I'm still trying to decide my plans to celebrate the new year, it's either Bmore or NOLA . I have a few days to make arrangements, but cannot seem to make up my mind. I mentioned this via twitter, not quite sure if I mentioned on the blog, but uhhhh Project Brazil has been put on hold. Guess where I'm going?---- AMSTERDAM--- in January (as a bday travel). If you know of any shops, boutiques, or other attractions that I can rattle myself in, please do share. In the meantime, continue to be fly, and enjoy your Monday!!

Janet had a stint on American Idol, and when she performed on the show, she wore the exact same outfit pictured above. Damita Jo's hair is sittin' , she is giving me fever right about now, the short do' suits her face so well. Hey there Folks, I hope everyone had a fantastic Holiday!! I am in bed resting over the next couple of days. I pulled a muscle in my back on Thanksgiving, Thank God for auntie who is a Physical Therapist. I was in a lot of pain Thursday night, it was so hard to walk,I'm not sure if that was partially due to all of the food I ate, or the muscle spasms. Eitherway, I am taking it easy until I nurse myself back to status HEALTHY!! I managed to flick it up before the pain became unbearable, dad and I are like identical twins (I get my style from him). Sidenote, did you know that Your girl is a chef!!!!!

This week is just beginning and I'm already excited to experience how it will pan out. I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is in 3 days??? 2010 has been the best year of my life, and when I say the best I mean the best!! I'm still in shock at how fast the year zoomed by, Over elated for my Bday & Brazil trip...Jet-setting for 20111 is just beginning!! I'm sure it will be weird going from Snow/Cold weather to Sunny 90degree weather, gotta love transition...

Majority of my outfit is thrifted/vintage from a purchase within the last week. I have a love affair with neutral tones, I think I wear them a bit too much, and it's not because I'm trying to play it safe. I could not, under any circumstances leave those beauties behind. The otherday while thrifting, I scored a pair of brand new Frye cowboy boots for $19 along with the backpack shown. THE FUR SALE

I got a chance to check out the Annual Fur Sale this weekend!! Gently worn & Vintage furs dressed the floors of the League. Women awaited patiently (some un-patiently) for their turn to go inside and buy buy buy. I had no clue that the event would be such a huge turnout, the organizers were sweet, and the prices were reasonable. I purchased some really dope bracelets from the 50/60's era, along with a chunky metal necklace to match. My sister scored a cream/off white Tibetan Curly Lamb fur & a 3 foot vintage pearl necklace -with a 20% discount. Next year I want in, I've collected enough furs to last for two weeks, ok maybe a week & a half?!?!??!

I thrust into boldness...did you notice? I have a new lip color, YAY for all the folks that know me, and know how terrified I am of color (on me). Yup, I've launched into the hue of Mac's Ruby Woo, and I love to love to love it. I purchased the matted lipstick from Nordstrom's a few weeks ago. I'm just getting around to wearing it, not sure why it took we so long though considering it is one of my best finds in a longgggg time. Needless to say, i'm in love with it, and you will see it a lot more, along with my berry lips. The cold front is on a rise and I am sooooo excited, do you folks really know how much I love Fall/Winter...No? Well stay tuned to find out, because the Beast comes out in F/W!

Okay sooooo I overdosed on the pictures, but who cares? On my previous post I rambled on about how perfect the weather was, blah blah blah.  I've changed my mind, or rather God changed his, because this weekend the temperature dropped about 15 degrees...Burrr (In my Gucci Mane' Voice). I'm exaggerating on the cold front, it's just any excuse to pull out fur and not feel bad about rocking it. If you noticed I'm wearing a fur scarf and no socks, I chuckled at myself when I noticed too! My first time wearing the chocolate trousers was today, if you've been following me for awhile you will know that my color palette is pretty much the same, earth tones & nudes w/ a hint of color every now and again.  I couldn't have felt more comfortable today, I heart trousers with a nice fitting blazer any day of the week! Off to Virginia for the week...

Hey everyone I hope you missed me!! I recently scored a position, serving the community with Social Work, so this transition was super drastic, and very unexpected...this quote represents so much: "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans" pahahaha, I know God was cracking up laughing at me for sure, because I had my whole life mapped out! One of my new life strategies is obedience, so when God speaks, I listen. My niece Cayla, was the faithful photographer this weekend, she was so comfortable behind the lens, I was truly impressed. My mom promised her a sewing machine for Christmas, she said she wanted to be a Fashion Designer, peeps' I think we have a fashionista' in the making, so excited to see what she will create first.

 I've been in a "some kind of blue mixed with army green" feeling lately,  I love pairing earthy tones with warmth, they seem to compliment one another.  I took these photos, after an event at Milk studios for NY fashion week kickoff. If you notice, my "hair" was about 2 inches longer & a few hues lighter. I wasn't feeling it as I've stated in a previous post, needless to say, you can find me back at square one (baled, black, and loving it). I had to debut my lucite wedges by Cacharel, in the beginning I was terrified to walk in them, but after a pep talk I came around -you can't tell me nothing (in my kanye voice)-

I'm wearing a vintage navy blue polka dot dress, tribute pumps, h & m pearl necklace 
The night was a bit ultra magnetic, the moon was so full it looked like it could burst out of the sky, seemed so close that I could kiss it! There was no concept behind the photos, besides the lighting, my aunt loved the lighting so I went with it. I guess that's how "art" happens sometimes? There's a sanguiness' to these pics, almost eerie ey? Btw, when I say I'm spoiled with thrifting and vintage hunting I mean it. I am on the hunt for unique and one of a kind threads, this dress was mos def a good find. I love the light airy and sheerness of the fabric, along with all the compliments I received. If you are ever down for thrifting in Bmore, let me know...I can't keep everything to myself :D

I do love music, almost every genre, that including Blue Grass, Folk, Trippy Hippie - Phish, Gratfuldead, Phil Lesh & Friends...etc. Jazz of course, this classified Neo Soul(whatever that mean), Hip Hop -old School, New School, Underground. House,ohhhhhI can't get enough of that HOUSE!! I grew up listening to it since birth. Did I ever tell you that my dad is a house dancer, No? Well yeah, so I love house honestly, every now and then pops and I go out and cut a rug. Usually by the middle of the evening I'm over in a corner watching him rock off like nobody's watching. Music is it's own ambiance altering any mood, one of the reasons I could never get enough.

I was headed to a bridal shower party at the time, and honestly I over dressed...smh even the bride to Be' rocked a pair of jeans and a simple cute cardigan. WHAT IS PAST IS PROLOGUE: AN ODE TO MY HAIR

That was Jeneen aka me before the chop (I am speaking in 3rd person because I go through so many transitions) Me aka j-town, talbert, nino, talbertestain, J, JN, Jeneen Nicole - 6 or 7 years ago, well almost. I had dread locks from 2000 to 2003 then decided to pull a grace jones before moving to New York in 2004/05. There is a saying: " A girl who changes her hair, changes her life" I'm not quite sure who came up with this quote, but they couldn't have been more on the marker?!??! No? It is most certainly true, each picture serves as a blueprint of my life. Every image fulfills a time line, a metamorphosis even. They are in no particular order, but trust and believe that each one has it's own story to tell, some good, some bad, some so exciting I wish I could relive. How ironic tho', I mean being a black woman and all, these tales -every one- evolve around my hair. Recently, I opt' to try something different with my hair, I decided to let it grow a few short inches, and spruced it up with a light brown tint. I came up with this bright idea while going through another one of Life's Test. My idea last for a good two months, everyone loved it, one random guy insisted to tell me just how much! I had an in-between low cut; a cross between a fo'hawk and a lil bootsie fade (if you don't know who lil bootsie' is please google Please & Thank You). The Fo'hawkfade is now back to square one, well a 1 1/2 in barber terms. I blamed everything on Mikey (my barber) for allowing me to experiment, when he knew that I would detest what was looming on my crown. I am pretty happy with my short do', this is the one style that I've held up over the years. When I get tired, I'm sure I will come up with some random style to suffice the feeling of change, hell my next move might be a crazy bush weave...or a wig?

One of my many looks for long awaited fall...Now I go and rob a bank or two to purchase this Burberry Sheepskin Bomber!! I found the same exact tafetta skirt while thrifting the other day, I can't wait to layer it with some crazy vintage tulle, and dope gray socks!! This fall, I'm rocking wool fedoras, high-waist vintage pants, tons of sweaters, burnout tanks and t's (Wang and American Apparel), crazy killer boots, every hue of ankle and thigh socks, high -waist vintage skirts, and of course fur, all types of fur, rabbit, beaver, fox, mink, sheep, dog it really does not matter I am going to rocking it baby! PETA watch out!!

I know some of you are probably wondering where I've been? Did you miss me? I sure do hope so because I missed you!

Folks, August was the month of abandonment. There is nothing special about August in my opinion, except of course for the anticipation of Fashion Week. It is forsaking'ly hot, you (I am ) constantly sweating, I barely want to put on clothes, there is absolutely no point in getting glam, until the sun is set. Heat equals a waste of an outfit, not to mention the misuse of wearing make-up, accessories, and shoes with sweaty feet ughh. Majority of the time I am so irritable from the heat, that I have to stay in cool air. When I'm outside (in August) I have to calm myself down so that I don't have a cantankerous conniption fit, LoL. Sooooooo uhhh yeah, there is nothing special about sweltry, febrile August (I stick my tongue out). But don't worry, Now that September is here, you will see me a whole lot more!!

Keia and I decided to get dolled up on a cooler and more tolerable day. We had no particular destination in mind, but what does it matter when you're in New York?

I'M WEARING A VINTAGE ROMPER, UO BROUGES, PUMPIN PURPLE STREET SOCKS, VINTAGE BRACELETS, NECKLACE, AND RING.

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PEOPLE, IT'S BEEN SUPER QUITE AROUND HERE FOR THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF. I FOUND MYSELF NEEDING A MAJOR BREAK TO REFLECT & RELAX. MY COMPADRE KEIA (TRAVEL PARTNER) & I TREKKED TO BARCELONA FOR A FEW DAYS. WE CELEBRATED HER BORNDAY, WENT SIGHT SEEING, ATE MARVELOUS MIXTURES OF SEAFOOD AND HALF ASSED BURGERS. LIFE WAS RELAXED, AND COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE SURREAL. WE GOT OUR "TAN GAME ON" WHILE SUNBATHING ON THE BEACH. IN BARCELONETA YOU ARE FREE TO GO TOPLESS, SO WE TOOK COMPLETE ADVANTAGE AND SUNBATHED EVERYDAY OF OUR TRIP. THE NIGHTLIFE PROVED PROMISING, A PICTURESQUE STRIP OF DIMMED LIGHTS, CIGARETTE SMOKE, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, POP RADIO, TOURIST AND TRANSPLANTS ALL HIT THE SAND AND PAVEMENT FOR A TASTE OF WHAT EACH CLUB OR LOUNGE HAD TO OFFER. WE FOUND OURSELVES DANCING THE MOONWALK HORIZONTALLY AS WE DIPPED INTO ALMOST EVERY SPOT OF THE STRIP. CATALONIA'S VIBE REMINDED ME SO MUCH OF SAN FRANCISCO, BUT WITH A TWIST OF THE GOTHIC ELEGANCE. WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK IN WINTER :D

My attire is obviously inappropriate for the heat wave that we've been experiencing for the last couple of days. I assumed that if I wore a sheer top, and penny loafers with no socks it would suffice during the night. Unfortunately my assumptions lead me astray. I had a serious melt down considering that the evening temp was around 85 degrees fehrenheit. My back was so wet that by the time I finished walking around, I wanted to get real hood and put baking soda on my neck & chest to absorb and keep cool! ..Hehehe some of Yall know exactly what I'm talking about! I couldn't bring myself to do it, so instead I begged my friend to drive around with the A/C blasting! Oh Boy She did, and it was the coolest Bettle I've driven in, eventually we got around to flicking it up thanks D.C!

I can honestly say that I've been all around the world, and HOME by all means (besides New Orleans) is my all time beloved location. I wasn't born on a range, farm, mansion, or prestige neighborhood on the best side of town, in fact it was one of the worse, HBO decided to make a t.v series out of it titled "The Wire". I wouldn't change one thing about my life, where I've been or how I got there, every element of my character, spirit & being is apart of my hood...B More "Ya Heard Me"

Hey Folk! Yes I know I've been MIA, but please believe it was all for a good cause! I had to readjust to the time difference, with much needed sleep, proper nourishment, &  good reads! Inspite of my mishaps (throwing away 10 pairs of  shoes), Life has been fantastic so I will not dare complain! There is more travel lined up for the next 3 weeks, I'm so excited about the destinations to come!!! I have to step my spanish game up ASAP, next week I'm trekking to Cancun for 5 days/4 nights, Barcelona for 4 days/3 nights and last but not least, Miami for the Juanita Bynum conference! If you are in any of those areas send me a text or drop a line!! I'm sending everyone a hug...Happy almost Hump Day!!

ONE WOULD AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY WE'RE ALL ENTITLED TO HAVE A "BLONDE MOMENT" (PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF YOU ARE A BLONDE), BUT I THINK I'VE OUTDONE MYSELF WITH ALL OUT STUPIDITY, SOMETHING SO OBSCENE THAT EVEN THE DUMBEST PERSON WOULD SHAKE THEIR HEAD!! THE OTHER NIGHT, WHILE IN A RUSH OF UNPACKING AND CLEANING, I THREW AWAY 8 PAIRS OF BRAND NEW OR LIKE BRAND NEW SHOES!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, BECAUSE I STILL CANNOT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND IT!! I'VE BEEN TWEETING AND FB'ING ABOUT MY BATTINESS WHIM. IT ALL STARTED WITH CLEANING, AND RE-ARRANGING, I WAS MOVING MY CLOTHES/SUITCASES FROM ONE ROOM TO THE NEXT, OUT OF LAZINESS I THREW MY SHOES IN A GARBAGE BAG, INSTEAD OF PICKING THEM UP INDIVIDUALLY, AND PLACING THEM IN THE HALLWAY. WHILE CLEANING THE ROOM, I BAGGED OTHER HEAVY ITEMS TO BE TAKEN OUT TO THE DUMPSTER FOR GARBAGE DAY. IN A HASTE I DIDN'T SEPARATE THE SHOES FROM THE GARBAGE, AND THREW ALL OF THE BAGS FORGETTING ABOUT THE SHOES.

I AM IN MORNING RIGHT NOW, I DON'T EVEN HAVE ANYONE TO BLAME WHICH MAKES THE THOUGHT SO MUCH WORSE. I AM HAVING A MEMORIAL SERVICE RIGHT NOW FOR MY LONG LOST SHOES, EVEN THO' YOU CAN'T BE HERE PHYSICALLY, BY ALL MEANS PLEASE SEND YOUR RESPECTS IN SPIRIT!!

Peace Folk!! I've been on the neglect tip for a few days...I'm Bazzzzzzzaccccccck!! My sister's Bornday was the other day, so  we decided to take it easy and have fun.  I am the worse Oldest sister EVERRRRRRR btw. Her friends planned a surprise Birthday gathering that was a secret, well it was a secret until I accidently spilled the beans. I am still feeling a bit guilty, even though it happened two days ago! She enjoyed her day nonetheless so I'm Happy that she's HAPpY. We ate Mickey D's, took ton's of pic's, had dessert, starburst , & shared the cutest cake ever (not pictured). I'M WEARING VINTAGE PANTS WORN CROPPED, PRIMADONNA (ITALIA) LEATHER AND TWEED SANDALS, H & M TUNIC & RINGS, VINTAGE NECKLACE.

I love love love the print of this Tunic, it reminds me {a less colorful game }of tribal Tetris (which is one of my fave games by the way). I was a bit hesitant about wearing the pants at first, they are super high waist & stop right below my rib cage. I did not under any circumstance want to look pregos! While outside shooting, we realized that there were a bunch of blood sucking ants on the other side of the cement bench. I opt to stand up and pose, rather than sit down and pay for it later, insect bites in Sicily are very painful please take my word for it!! Check out the serious Tan I received while in Africa, I'm so proud of my completion...I can't stop cheezin' Woop Woop :D

I'm wearing a vintage floral print dress, it was Made in the 60's!! H & M ring, forever 21 floral studs, Fausta Moretti Open Toe pumps.

I wanted to switch the tempo or rather the flow of pics, so I figured I'd share more "Style" pics this particular post. My first time wearing this dress was during my week to far far way. I purchased it almost a year ago, while out and about with my friend Lady O, on one of our Never Ending hunt for chic cheap pieces. I had to lose about 5 pounds before wearing it, luckily I did right before heading to Egypt. When packing, I chose to take pieces that I'd never worn before, to make the Journey more ethereal & neoteric, it proved it's purpose. I prove to be super Happy :D I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday!!!
